Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Hall

Hideyo Noguchi Memorial Hall

Approximately 25 minutes by car from the hotel

A memorial hall for Nobel-prize nominated Hideyo Noguchi is located at his birthplace in Fukushima prefecture. You can find out more about Hideyo Noguchi’s life story at the museum, as well as look at some of his belongings at the exhibition. The house itself is Noguchi’s birthplace, where visitors can experience the atmosphere of a typical Meiji-period house and the circumstances Hideyo Noguchi was born into. You can also find a robot replica of Noguchi here, who can engage in conversation with visitors.

Tsurugajo

Built in the fourteenth century, and destroyed in the nineteenth, the castle was restored in 1960. The inside of the castle is converted into a museum about the history of the castle itself and the warrior class. It is possible to climb up to the top floor of the castle and enjoy the scenery below. The castle also has a park, complete with a teahouse for traditional tea ceremonies.

After the fall of the shogunate in the Meiji Restoration period, groups resisting the new system prevailed. One of these groups were the Byakkotai, a group of twenty young men.
