Ise Grand Shrine
Approximately 50 minutes by car from the hotel
Believed to be Japan’s most sacred shrines, the Outer and Inner Shrines of the Ise Jingu hold significant cultural importance. It enshrines Amaterasu, the sun goddess, whose descendants became members of the imperial line according to Japanese tradition. Both the Inner and the Outer shrines are completely rebuilt every twenty years, while completely keeping the original architecture. The Inner Shrine is called the Koutai Shrine, and the Outer Shrine hosts around 125 deities at various locations. It is said that everyone should visit the Ise Grand Shrine once in their lifetime. Representing one of the main pillars of the sources of Japanese tradition and culture, Ise Grand Shrine, and the sun goddess it houses is a must-visit.

Okage Yokocho – Oharai Town

This town is located just in front of the Ise Shrine. It reproduces the townscape of the Ise Road, as it used to look like during the Edo and Meiji periods. About fifty stores have been reconstructed to look like their traditional counterparts. It is possible to try the famous Ise Udon here, as well as try “akafuku,” a speciality sweet of the area. For those who appreciate sake, there is also a brewery located in this area. You can also find many souvenirs, and food special to the Ise area. Apart from shops, there are also many festivals held in this area and you can pay a visit to an experimental museum which aims to teach about Japanese mythology.
