Takiya-ryo is a fishing method unique to the Hamana Lake. It is possible to board these fishing boats and catch your own fish from them with guidance. There is a possibility to cook the seafood you caught yourself on the Takiyai-tei, a boat on the lake. The boatman will prepare the food for you, ready to eat right there! This experience is right outside your hotel room: you can board from the front of the hotel. Available period: from mid-May until the end of September)

The Ryotanji is a zen-temple which was founded in the eighth century. The building has significant historical as well as architectural value: it features the nightingale floor planking method, which was used as a security feature. The dragon found in the main temple was sculpted by renowned artist Hidari Jingoro. Designated a national site of scenic beauty, the temple is equipped with a beautiful garden. Recently, this temple has gained popularity by getting the spotlight in a hit drama “Ii Naotora.”

Nukumori Mori – “Warm Woods”

Hamana Lake Garden Park

The 2004 venue of the International Flower Expo. You can explore several areas of the garden, all of which representing a different aspect for appreciating the beauty of nature. There is a flower museum here, as well as an international garden, which represents gardening styles from all over the world, such as Nepal, Thailand, and the United Kingdom. Make sure to check out the garden modelled after the garden painted by Claude Monet! Garden cruises are also available, as well as a restaurant, which offers meals for take-out too.

Eel Pie Factory

If you need a unique souvenir from Hamamatsu, you don’t need to look further than eel pie. You can visit the manufacture and see the process of making eel pie yourself. Watch the preparation, baking, and inspection process from beginning to end, and receive an explanation to go with each stage. In the manufacture shop, it is also possible to purchase souvenirs, and try the sweets yourself at the facility’s café.

Tenryu Hamana Railway

Approximately 40 minutes by car to the Hamanako Sakuma station from the hotel

A local railway that connected Kakegawa to Kosai city in the Showa period. This area is full of places worthy of seeing, such as the beautiful Hamana Lake and the tea plantations. There are many notable places to visit alongside the train stops, and it is recommended to hop on the line and do some sightseeing alongside the railway.

This road station is equipped with several touristy things. There is an observation deck, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. A footbath is also installed, similarly with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Hamamatsu Flower Park

This flower park is also called the “Flower Libraries.” The site covers an area of 319,000 square metres, showing off an abundant variety of flowers. There is something beautiful to look at with each passing season. This lower park is also adjacent to the Hamamatsu City Zoo. The zoo was the first to open in the Shizuoka prefecture area. It is located in the middle of a forest, and faces the Hamana Lake on one side. There are combined tickets available for the flower park and the zoo.

This is a facility which aims to teach us about the Air Self-Defence Force Corps. You can visit experimental parts of the exhibition, with fighter aircraft exhibits and flight simulators, where you can try what it feels like to be a real pilot.
